We’ll introduce you to a world that’s all about your Style.
Through our Fishtopia section, you’ll be exposed to different types of species.
You’ll choose your style that matches the Characteristics and Habitat of these species. Once you’ve done that, you’ll gain more knowledge about the equipment needed to start your adventure. Along the way you’ll also gain helpful tips.
Through our virtual NorthernStar Learning Shanty you’ll understand how to select the right Rod, Reel, and Line to use. Soon we’ll have video clips so you can see what we mean. You’ll be taught how to spool a reel, select a net, and decide which hook to Use.
Here’s where the fun comes in, you’ll get to know how to grid a lake, use a depth finder, land, clean and cook your catch. Sounds like you’re not ready to eat what you catch? That’s ok; we’ll introduce you to mounting a fish.
We’ll finish with teaching you about tackle boxes, tool boxes and preparing you for small medical emergencies that can happen via our first aid section. We hope you enjoy the NorthernStar Learning Shanty so that you have the best outdoor experience.

There are always legal aspects to this sport, whether you’re new to the sport or an avid angler. Visit our regulations section to keep up with state regulations, required state licenses, and Catch-N-Release requirements so that you will not be assessed fees if stopped by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) who man the lakes angler’s fish on. Please make sure you visit this information from the DNR.
