Grilled Breakfast Sandwich

1 egg
2 slices sourdough bread or 2 slices bread, of your choice
2 slices American cheese
2 slices bacon or 1 slice ham, Canadian bacon, or sausage patty
4 T. butter (half to cook egg, other half to butter bread)

Cook meat thoroughly.  Set aside.  Fry egg in skillet until yolk is hard. Season with salt and pepper and set aside. Butter both pieces of bread on one side, and place cheese, meat and egg between the slices, buttered sides of bread outward (like making a grilled cheese).  Grill sandwich on both sides in a skillet on med-low heat until golden and cheese is melted.  Cut in half diagonally and serve.
